😱Go where it’s uncomfortable. Talk with the person from your team or that manager who does not resonate with you, or holds a different opinion. Even if you think they sabotage your work. Be curious.

When I was developing as a Scrum Master, I had many uncomfortable situations. I learned that in 95%* of cases leaning into those relationships brought the most insight, understanding, improvements, kindness and respect (both ways).

Usually, they fight for things important to them. Knowing those can help you understand them better and see that you might be fighting for the same thing (on a high level). I met very few people in my life deliberately trying to impede something or do harm.

🚨Three disclaimers👇🏼

  1. So what about the 5%? There might be people who are toxic, narcissistic, playing dangerous games etc., where curiosity might do more damage to yourself than bring benefit. Joe Navarro has written an excellent book on the topic.
  2. Be kind to yourself. You might not have the power to persevere, the mental capacity to be curious or have too many battles to fight. Take care of yourself. Manage your energy. It’s like on an aeroplane – if you don’t get the oxygen first, you won’t be able to help others.
